Expanding team welcomes Barry Knight, retail advisory and restructuring specialist

Smith & Williamson, the leading accountancy and investment management group, is delighted to announce the appointment of Barry Knight, who joins the firm's Restructuring and Recovery Services team as a director, specialising in the retail sector. 

Barry has over 18 years' experience in the retail sector, having worked with Mytravel, Littlewoods, Burtons (now Arcadia), Sears, Selfridges, Coats Viyella, Jaeger and Boots, among other household names. His focus has typically been on reorganisation and restructuring projects.

"The retail sector has been operating in a benign environment for some years and this has masked inefficiencies. However, the combination of the credit crunch, falling house prices, rising commodity prices, inflation in China and other supplier countries, means the retail sector could soon be facing some testing issues." 

"I am delighted to be joining Smith & Williamson which offers a quality alternative to the larger firms. I will draw on my restructuring experience and look to help reorganise retail businesses where necessary . There are many retail businesses who are fundamentally sound and can be turned around. It is a question of facing up to and addressing the issues at an early stage," said Barry. 

Barry is a chartered accountant and a member of the Association of Corporate Treasurers.  He is based at Smith & Williamson's City office.
