Firm provides a range of services to Legacy Portfolio

Advised by Smith & Williamson, Legacy Portfolio ("Legacy") has completed the purchase of a portfolio of leases from a listed PLC. 

The Smith & Williamson team, Roland Brook, John Voyez and Martin Courtney assisted Legacy with co-ordinated accounting, commercial structuring, corporate tax and VAT advice on the acquisition of the lease portfolio. 

Voyez explains, "The commercial arrangements for this deal are fairly innovative as we were helping Legacy purchase onerous leases from a company wishing to get the leases off their balance sheet while employing a tax and accounting approach which should generate a profitable return for Legacy." 

Alexander Anton, Chairman of Legacy said, "We are delighted to have acquired our first portfolio and look forward to acquiring many more in this emerging market for the sale of corporates' lease liabilities."

The portfolio comprises a number of distressed leases and Legacy has retained FraserCRE to manage these on its behalf and Smith & Williamson have been retained as auditors.
