21st July 2008

Clipper Teas specialises in premium organic and fairly traded teas, coffees and herbal infusions.  Since its formation in 1984, Clipper has become a leading supplier with a strong contemporary brand focused on young, health-conscious, environmentally and ethically aware consumers.

Tim Moore, Corporate Finance Director at Smith & Williamson, commented: "The transaction demonstrated that strong brands, despite the current economic environment, continue to attract considerable interest from international trade and private equity buyers. The majority of the first round offers for Clipper Teas came from international buyers.

It builds upon Smith & Williamson's expertise in selling branded, owner-managed, consumer sector companies such as Tommee Tippee, the bottle teats and soothers business, Delamore, the garden nursery business, and Artigiano, the ladies' fashion mail order business."

Michael Brehme, former Managing Director of Clipper, commented: "Tim Moore, Steve Dilley and the team at Smith & Williamson did a terrific job for us from start to finish and I will certainly be working with Smith & Williamson again in the future".
