Smith & Williamson Investment Management is delighted to announce the appointment of Charles Deptford as lead manager for its UK Equity Growth and UK Special Situations Trusts and to assist Rupert Fleming on the Enterprise Fund (a UK long/short offshore fund).

Charlie brings over 20 years' experience in fund management, most recently at New Star Asset Management where he managed their Equity Income Fund among others. This fund became one of New Star's best performing funds shortly after his arrival. Previous roles have included Head of UK Equities at Rothschild Asset Management and four years at Barings where he managed their Equity Income and Equity Growth funds, achieving strong performance. He will start at Smith & Williamson on 3rd June.

"I'm excited to be joining Smith & Williamson at a key time in its development. The firm has a boutique approach to fund management which is refreshing and I am also looking forward to supporting Rupert Fleming on the Smith & Williamson UK long/short capability. Although these are undoubtedly challenging times for markets, I am delighted to be joining a business that is clearly looking to grow itself into a leading boutique player," said Charlie.

Rupert Fleming, Director and lead manager of the Smith & Williamson Enterprise Fund, said "Charlie is particularly strong on portfolio construction and asset allocation, and has considerable experience of the UK equity market which will complement the existing team. Mark Swain and I are delighted that Charlie is joining the team and we are looking forward to continuing the excellent long-term track record of the Fund."

Nick Hodgson, director of Marketing & Sales at Smith & Williamson Investment Management said: "Charlie's appointment underlines our commitment to grow the funds business. He is well known in the retail funds industry and has a wide following amongst intermediaries which will help us to raise the profile of Smith & Williamson in the coming years."
