Smith & Williamson’s Tana Focke wins Lipper Citywire award
16th March 2006
Lady Tana Focke, a director at Smith & Williamson Investment Management, has won the ‘Fund Manager of the Year: North America’ title at the Lipper Citywire All Stars Awards 2006.
The award was presented in recognition of the outstanding performance of Nucleus American Trust, formerly known as the Smith & Williamson American Trust, which Tana has managed since 1997.
Last year, Tana won two awards at the annual Standard & Poor’s Fund Awards after her fund was ranked 1st out of 95 and 79 in its sector – Equity North America, for one and five years respectively.
Chris Lyttelton, deputy chairman and head of investment management at Smith & Williamson, said: “Tana has been a professional in this field for many years and her accolades reflect her skills and experience.”
Tana began her career with broker Joseph Sebag in 1968. She worked as a US broker for 20 years before switching to fund management and running US funds for a Swedish bank and a UK life assurance company.
In late 1997, Tana joined Smith & Williamson to manage its North American fund. Today, the £57.4m fund – which aims to achieve long-term growth of capital largely through investment in securities quoted on markets in North America – has a minimum investment level of £1,000 and a 1.25% annual management charge.
Smith & Williamson is an independent investment management, financial advisory and accounting group, ranked 8th in the national survey of accountancy practices by Accountancy and Accountancy Age magazines. Its investment management and banking business has over £7 billion funds under management, making it one of the largest independent private client investment managers in the UK.
