Ian joined Smith & Williamson in 1994 and heads our transaction services and valuations practices.  He has over twenty years' experience in transaction support work, including due diligence and valuations.

He has specialised in advising growing businesses throughout his career. His prior experience includes 10 years in the owner managed business group at Arthur Andersen, and 10 years as a venture capitalist, including seven years as a Director of Lloyds Merchant Bank and Senior Director of its venture capital subsidiary, Lloyds Development Capital. Ian has acted as Non Executive Director of over a dozen companies, and writes and lectures on a wide range of business issues.

His work at Smith & Williamson has included due diligence investigations and other work for over 30 venture capital funds, on transactions ranging in size from £1-200 million.  His valuations experience covers share and other valuations for a range of private, public and quoted companies, ranging from under £1 million to over £1 billion in size.  In 2009, he was appointed as the independent valuer for the Dumfermline Building Society compensation arrangements. He has also undertaken forensic work for a number of major corporates and assisted in finance raising, including business plan preparation and analysis.
