Mark joined NCL in 1988, which later merged with Smith & Williamson at the end of 2002. Previously Mark had spent 21 years with the London stockbroking partnership of L Messel & Co and two years as an executive director of Shearson Lehman Brothers in charge of UK market making.

At Messel, prior to its takeover by Shearson, he was responsible for building a substantial market share in the hitherto undeveloped investment trust market. At NCL he was instrumental in developing the Private Client business.
