Doug heads the Forensic Services and Competition Services teams at Smith & Williamson.
Forensic Services
He has specialised in forensic accounting since 1990 and takes instructions on numerous cases a year including:
- commercial disputes
- professional negligence actions
- personal injury and fatal accident cases
Doug has acted as an adviser and an expert witness in cases in a wide variety of sectors and involving substantial damages.
He has given evidence on numerous occasions in the High Court and at International Arbitrations and is a member of the Academy of Experts and of the Expert Witness Institute.
He regularly lectures to lawyers on quantum issues and on the subject of the use of expert witnesses.
Competition Services
Doug has acted in Monitoring Trustee appointments overseeing divestments arising out of merger control cases that have been approved by the UK Competition Commission and the European Commission.
He has also acted as a quantum expert appointed by the Claimant in pursuit of damages following a decision by the Competition Appeals Tribunal and has been appointed as an expert by a distribution business subjected to a search and freezing order following allegations of unlawful competition.
