Hannah Dobson

Hannah is a VAT director based in our London office, which she joined in 2007 after 11 years with PwC. She is responsible for developing new business in key sectors, with a particular focus on retail, recruitment and leisure businesses.

Hannah is a leading expert on the complex VAT issues involved in carbon emissions trading and Smith & Williamson now acts for several important participants in this market. In her PwC days she led a Tribunal case to get a zero-rating for a well-known ‘smoothie' manufacturer, on the basis that smoothies fall outside the definition of a ‘beverage' for VAT purposes, and has recently led another appeal challenging the imposition of VAT on wheatgrass juice.
