David started his career joining Birmingham Stockbroker, Murray & Co, in April 1984 as an assistant portfolio manager. Over the following 24 years, Murray & Co metamorphosed through Allied Provincial Securites, Greig Middleton, to Gerrard Investment Management, part of Barclays Wealth.  David joined Smith & Williamson in October 2008.

During this time, David has not only managed Discretionary and Advisory Private Clients, but also gained experience in other areas of stockbroking and investment management, spending time in both smaller company research and institutional sales.

Since 1995, David's prime role has been focused towards investment management. He is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment.
